Our Vision
Our vision is to create an event where you can find new to you fashion in exchange for your unwanted, but still stylish clothing. We aim to present a relaxed boutique style event, for exchanging interesting items.
The emphasis is on sustainability, reducing waste, reusing clothing while at the same time creating an exciting event for the discerning fashion wearer.

Bring a minimum of three and up to 10 items to Check In on the day.
We’re all about quality, not quantity!
If you have more quality items you’d like to swap, you can bring up to 20 items in advance of the swap to Exchange Place Studios,

Our fashion savvy team will categorise your stash into three categories and assign you credits for each item.
On your first visit we will give you a membership number and add you to our super glam Excel spreadsheet to record your credit balance.
CHOOSE
At 10 it’s time to Choose your new wardrobe. We’ll let you know your credit balance and you can select items up to that value.
We’ll keep adding items to the rails all afternoon. Take your time, try a few things on. There’s no rush.
FAQs
How do the Credits work?
Here at Steel City Style Exchange we know not all frocks are not created equal so we categorise items into three categories.
These are the amounts you will receive for bringing the item and the amount that item will “cost” to the person choosing it.
The clothes and accessories can’t be bought or sold. Only swapped for credits.
The cover charge of £4 is to pay for the running costs only.
What should I bring to swap?
Adult clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories are all welcome.
Unless it is a designer collaboration/ limited edition etc we would rather avoid budget labels such as Primark/Atmosphere, TU, George etc.
Not because we don’t like them (we do, I’m wearing Primarni right this minute) but because we’re trying to make this Exchange just a little but more special. For everyone.
All items should be in good clean condition, with no rips, stains, holes or damage. We do not accept items for ‘ragging’, or damaged and unwearable items.
No underwear or swimwear please, unless it is brand new with tags.
No children’s clothes please.
We all know it would be impossible to list every label but hopefully this should give you an idea.
Style Swaps = 1 Credit per item
High St brands such as TopShop, Next, M&S, Boden, Urban Outfitters Hobbs, Benetton, John Lewis, Designers at
Debenhams, Zara, French Connection, H&M, Oasis, Warehouse, Wallis, Reiss, River Island, Office, ASOS, Pull&Bear, Paul&Joe.
Vintage/Limited Edition Swaps = 3 Credits per item
Items dating from pre 1990 in good wearable condition. The odd minor smut or missing button is fine, but anything totally thrashed will be rejected.
Star Swaps = 5 Credits per item
Designer items and the very upper end of high street.
Karen Millen, Moschino, Lagerfeld, Cavalli, Radley, Diane von Furstenberg, McQueen, Comme des Garcons, Chloe, Michael Kors, Sisley, Halpern, Westwood, MSGM, etc.
If you kindly bring us something very special – Gucci, Chanel, Burberry etc we may choose to give you more than five credits for those items.
Do Vintage swaps have to be in perfect condition?
No, that’s nigh on impossible! Pre 1990 vintage/retro items only, please.
Please note, no high street labels will be accepted on Limited Editions, unless special collections, or collaborations
Some wear is fine, anything trashed or dirty will be rejected.
Vintage clothing will have a degree of leeway, due to the age of the pieces, but these should be wearable/usable and of the quality you would be happy to buy from a charity shop, or vintage store. Our volunteers have experience in handling and wearing vintage, so please ask if unsure.)
What if I don’t find anything I like?
Any credits you don’t use will roll over to a future event. We’re working on planning our next event after our current on on the 29th of January 2022, stay posted to find out when.
Any Style Swaps items left unchosen at the end of the day will be taken directly by The British Heart Foundation at the end of the event. Vintage and Star Swaps items will be rolled over until the next event.
Do you just keep the best stuff for yourselves?
Nope. Even the volunteers can only exchange clothes for credit so they can’t take anything without also bringing items of equal credit value.
What happens to any items left at the end of the day?
After three events they too will be donated directly to The British Heart Foundation.
We’ll have a donations box for The British Heart Foundation where any unselected items can be donated.
You may also bring any other items for donation directly to BHF.
Do you do men’s clothes, or children’s clothes?
We don’t accept children’s clothes as swaps, but all other clothes are welcome and all people over age 14 are welcome.
Where does the money go?
The cover charge just covers the venue hire and other overheads like marketing. All the team are volunteers.
I have so much stuff! How can I swap more items?
You can bring up to 20 items before the event. Please see ‘Swaps Drop Off’ section at bottom of page for details.
Can I volunteer for you?
All of Team SCSX are volunteers. Currently we are not accepting any new volunteers, but if you’d like to put your name down for future dates, shoot us a message.
HOW MANY EVENTS ARE YOU RUNNING?
We ran one event before lockdown in 2020 and two in 2019.
We have plans for another later in the year, depending on availablity of the gallery, Covid permitting.
We hope to make this a thrice yearly event, stay tuned for more!

PLEASE NOTE:
You cannot buy credits, the only way to obtain credits is to Check In items. All decisions made by the team are final. We will be fair to you and will be happy to explain any decision. A guideline to the kinds of things that fit into each category can be found here on FAQs
The event is only for those aged 14 and over.
Swaps drop off:
There’s only so many items we can process in a day and keep the vibe more boutique and less jumble-sale but you are very welcome to arrange a pre-drop.
From January 22nd 2022 you can drop up to twenty items at Exchange Place Studios, Exchange Street, Sheffield, S2 5SZ
Any time between 10am – 4pm Monday to Friday or outside of those hours by pre-arrangement. Just send us a message and we’ll happily arrange a suitable time for you.
Mark your items ‘FAO LIZZIE/ANNA STEEL CITY STYLE EXCHANGE’ and make sure to leave an email address and/or a phone number. We can then email you to confirm receipt and let you know the credit balance we have calculated for them. We’ll itemise each item.

Then all you have to do is turn up at the event from 12 noon to choose your new wardrobe. If life gets in the way and you miss the event, your credits will roll over to the next event.
